Staff Accountant

Position Summary 

Fueled by the passion for discovery, The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the execution of the Company’s accounting processes and transactions necessary to meet corporate policies, timelines, and internal and external reporting requirements.  On a daily basis, the position works closely with the Accounting Manager, project management, account services and others to meet the financial reporting objectives of the Company.  The Staff Accountant will also interact with senior management, external auditors and third parties.

Position Responsibilities

  • Performs daily accounts payable functions including circulating invoices for proper approval, entering all approved invoices, reconciling all credit card statements and vendor statements, serving as main contact for vendor inquiries and processing checks, maintains vendor records, identifies and calculates use tax on qualified purchases
  • Generates company billing in conjunction with account teams and Account Manager with close attention to invoice accuracy
  • Executes project close outs,  project write-offs, reviews and follows up on outstanding client accounts receivables; supports account team to provide required financial reporting to clients
  • Performs monthly interim revenue recognition process and prepares monthly revenue reporting
  • Prepares monthly journal entries for month end close and prepares monthly sales tax filing
  • Prepares weekly and monthly reporting for management
  • Reviews and assigns sales tax and internal costs to jobs
  • Works with Accounting Manager and SVP Finance & Adminsitration to manage annual budget coordination
  • Works with Accounting Manager to provide ad hoc reporting requests made of finance team
  • Participates in professional growth and development
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations as necessary
  • Participates in other activities:
  • Performs other job duties as assigned
  • Cross trains in other positions as requested
  • Serves as a backup for the Office Manager

Talent & Knack

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or other related field of study
  • Minimum 2 years progressive experience in accounting/finance
  • Experience of Microsoft Excel required, advanced knowledge is a plus
  • Experience with Advantage software a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated abilities of resourcefulness, thinking with good judgment and initiative
  • Maintains high ethical standards and displays sound and accurate judgment
  • Highly accountable with the ability to keep financial information confidential
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines while demonstrating attention to detail and follow-through on work assigned
  • Team player with a desire to promote a positive and harmonious work environment
